THIS YEAR'S 4th annual kelly's cove REUNION PAYS TRIBUTE TO THE FEMME FATALE'S WHO inspired our hearts & graced OUR YOUTH.

 

last year WE HONORED FRED WINDISCH, THE EXTRAORDINARY ARTIST & filmmaker WHOÕS VISION & creativity were LIGHT YEARS AHEAD OF HIS TIME. FRED'S inventive SPIRIT & dedication to the art of surfing LIVE ON IN HIS FILMS, his PHOTOGRAPHs & in OUR MEMORIES.

 

the 2006 gathering WENT AS SMOOTH AS A GLASSY WAVE ON A WINDLESS DAY thanks to all who contributed their time & love.  THANKS to bobby truelove, patrick o'keefe & steve Òzen buddhaÓ krolik for assisting with our firepit memorial ceremony. mahalo to JOHN & NANCY DONOVAN for welcoming all to their awesome sunset BEACH surf dwelling & tiki bar.  This year they have a little surfer girl of their own to join our kellyÕs family.

It was the perfect venue as WE proudly projected fredÕs films & photos ON THE NEIGHBORÕS WALL. our gratitude to FredÕs family & to BOB WISe FOR LETTING US SHOW THEir amazing collections. thanks to MARK RUEGG FOR his masterful EDITING. nANCY RAE lUDWIGSEN & her culinary crew CREATED A primo MENU WITH MANY of the 175++ ATTENDEES CARVING OUT 2ND & 3RD TURNS. awesome!

for our 4th annual reunion, EXPECTing even MORE ALUMNI & NEEDing a LARGER SPACE, WE BOOKED THE PACIFIC ROD & GUN CLUB AT LAKE MERCED. NANCY WILL again  CRafT A SAVORY FEAST THAT WILL TAKE US BEYOND THE SOUP, through a delicious culinary line up that will fill us down to our hang ten toes including WAVES OF WARM & COLD DRINKS available AT THE BAR. (COFEE, TEA, SODAS, WATER INCLUDED IN COST--beer & wine additional). BE READY TO get down, get funky & goofy foot it dancing to classic tunes.

 

WE will need to collect payment ($20 per person) A.S.A.P. as WE HAVE TO PAY IN ADVANCE FOR the facility rental & FOOD COSTS. THE 2007 KellyÕs Cove memorial & REUNION WILL be held ON saturday, the 6TH of october beginning with the 3PM FIREPIT MEMORIAL CEReMONY IN our kellyÕs CORNER at ocean beach. we will reconvene at the Pacific Rod & Gun Club from 6 p.m. TO MIDNITE for dinner, dance, surf films & surfer girl tribute.

An ongoing Surf Art class began in June & will run indefinitely on Sundays from 10am-1pm. I am teaching pastel painting at our local surf spots: KellyÕs Cove, Fort Point, DeadmanÕs & Eagles. It has been a real blast with all attendees stoked for more.

KellyÕs own Molly OÕkeefe & Carlo Gerace along with other surf & art enthusiasts have been diving into their creativity down at the beach. No prior art experience needed to participate. JOIN US!

a website will be launched to serve our surfing community as a historical archive & interactive chat/forum for the KellyÕs Cove Memorial/Reunions. Surf kahuna website will be up & running by August. Photos from the past events, videos, surf cartoons, artwork, surf art classes & interviews from our beach icons such as Bill Hickey will grace the Òhall of infamyÓ section.

 

You are invited to submit artwork, photos, videos & any blogs that would be of interest to our fellow Cove Alumni. You can send the images either by email or mail us cd/dvd discs. They will be treated as the treasures they are. We would also be happy to scan in your photos if you would be kind enough to lend us these precious images for a few days to upload onto the website, any copying or mailing expenses will be covered. WeÕd love to have waves of content rolling by August to get more info & feedback from those who visit the site before the event.

 

Cameras, recording equipment & scanners will be on hand to capture the stories & images at the upcoming October 6th Reunion. We are hoping that you become part of this project by being interviewed, by sharing any old photos of yourself & others from our community as well as recent pictures & contact updates. A special section will be devoted to the legendary ÒPower SquadronÓ. You know who you are.

 

Please join us in creating this online community & build a virtual ÒfirepitÓ circle for everyone to enjoy, stay connected & share memories & inspiration from that golden moment in time. itÕs also a way for the upcoming generations to learn about respect and honor among surfers in our precious ocean.  letÕs pass the wisdom torch & keep the flame going! we are now the elders of our community, letÕs take on this invaluable role for our children and the future surfers at ocean beach.
